About these terms

MiauMap (the website www.miaumap.com and the MiauMap app) is run by Miau Map, CNPJ 36.000.491/0001-18. By posting an alert or an adoption listing, sending a photo, asking to adopt, creating an alert area or signing in to the app, you accept these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use these features (browsing the map does not require an account).

Who can use MiauMap

People able to accept these terms. People under 18 may only use it with the permission and supervision of a parent or guardian. Your account is personal: use an email address that is yours.

What MiauMap does (and does not do)

MiauMap is a free map of lost and spotted cats, with neighborhood alerts and responsible adoption without sales. MiauMap does not broker adoptions, does not buy or sell animals, does not check people's identity and does not guarantee that a cat will be found or adopted. The "verified" badge only means that moderation checked a rescuer or shelter profile. Arrangements and meetings happen between the people involved.

Prohibited content and behavior

Selling animals, or putting a price or payment details in an adoption listing or a rescuer profile (adoption on MiauMap is free).

Scams and requests for money, such as asking for payment to return a cat or fake rewards.

Insults, threats, hate speech, harassment or stalking of any person.

Spam, advertising, and fake or repeated alerts and listings.

Sexual or violent content, or content showing cruelty to animals.

Other people's personal data (phone numbers, addresses, documents, photos of faces) without their permission, and pretending to be another person or organization.

Photos that are not of a cat, or that you have no right to use.

Zero tolerance

MiauMap has zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive users. Every photo goes through an automatic check before it is published (a cat must be present, no faces, no inappropriate content), and adoption listings and profiles with prices or payment details cannot be published. Content that breaks these terms is removed, and whoever posts it is penalized as described under "Moderation".

How to report and block

"Report" is available on every lost cat alert, chat, adoption listing, rescuer profile and adoption chat, on the website and in the app.

In a lost cat chat, either person can block the chat: after that, nobody can send messages or photos there and it cannot be reopened. In an adoption chat, the person giving the cat can close the chat and the person who asked to adopt can withdraw the request.

If there is a crime or a risk to someone's safety, also contact the police.

Moderation

Reports go to our moderation queue and are reviewed within 24 hours. Moderation can take down alerts and listings, block chats, and delete the account and all the data of anyone who breaks these terms.

Adoption has progressive penalties: a confirmed report gives a warning and the listing is taken down; the third warning bans the email (all listings are removed, the profile is hidden and open requests are closed). Severe cases are banned directly. A ban stays valid even after the person deletes their data.

Your content

You are responsible for what you post and you confirm that you have the right to use the photos you send. The content remains yours; you allow MiauMap to show it on the website, in the app, in alerts and in the images made for sharing (posters and link previews) while it is published. The exact spot you mark on an alert or listing is never shown to the public.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account and all your data at any time: in the app under Me > "Delete my data", on the website under "My alerts" or "My posts", or by writing to [email protected]. What is kept afterwards (such as an adoption ban) is described in the Privacy Policy.

Disclaimers

MiauMap is free and offered as it is; it may be unavailable at times. We are not responsible for arrangements, meetings or payments between people, or for content posted by users, which may be removed. Never pay before seeing the cat, and be wary of anyone who asks for money to return a cat.
